Trying to make a change in our lives can be challenging.
We can look at the change we want to make and think it is too big or too much for us to conquer.
Well, as they say, “Rome was not built in a day.”
Change of any kind is a process.
It begins with one small step.
Each step thereafter helps us to make the change we wish to make.
We don’t have to do anything major in our lives to have a major impact.
Combining the smallest of actions with persistence, consistence and patience is what will yield the biggest results.
Think of the process of losing weight. One day of eating right isn’t going to have much of an impact. However, thirty days of eating right will.
Each day we can make choices about how we are going to create the change we want to see in our lives.
The actions we take today will have an impact on our lives in the future. Each small step we take towards our goals today will make a difference tomorrow.
Because we live in a world of instant gratification, it can be difficult to have the patience to wait for the results.
As the song by the group Queen goes, “I want it all. I want it all and I want it now.”
To create permanent and long lasting results, it takes time and a whole lot of patience.
We may not see the results of our efforts right away. We have to be patient and trust that our efforts will pay off.
It is difficult to continue when we are not reaping the rewards of our efforts or even seeing any effects of our work.
Don’t despair. Keep on going. One day it will all come together and the results of your efforts will pay off.
Sometimes it can be can become overwhelming not knowing where to start or what to do first.
Don’t worry about it. Start where you are and take the first step.
Don’t worry that it doesn’t seem like a major step. It doesn’t have to be.
What will pay off in the long run will be the consistent and persistent steps that we take over and over.
This will give us the end result we are looking for.
Also, mix in a little patience for those times when the journey becomes weary and we are not seeing the results of our labour.
It takes time. Just keep moving forward and doing what you need to do and the results will show up.
I was reading an article written by a man who has won multiple olympic gold medals. He said he followed the “Three P” rule all good athletes know.
The three p’s are, presence, persistence and patience. This struck me that this is the same rule for success in life.
Presence is just about showing up about being present in life. If you want to win, you have to be there. If you want to accomplish your goals in life, you have to be present.
You also need to be persistent. Persistence is the art of not giving up when there is no sign that what you are doing is working. Persistence is faith in the process.
Finally, you must be patient. Patience is a virtue that has been forsaken in our microwave society where we want everything in an instant.
Good things come in time. Patience will help us hang on and keep on keeping on until we have successfully reached our goal.
